RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The Washington Redskins will move the team’s training camp to Richmond, Virginia, according to Governor Bob McDonnell’s office.

Governor McDonnell will be speaking to the media at 1:20 p.m. today on the steps of the Capitol, to address the move.

The news broke Wednesday morning on ESPN 950. Redskins owner Dan Snyder also owns Red Zebra Broadcasting, which owns ESPN 950.

In a press release, the Governor’s Office said the Redskins would start working with the City of Richmond to figure out the best place to hold the team’s 2013 summer training camp.

In March, representatives from the Washington Redskins were in town scouting possible training camp locations.

CBS 6 learned that three representatives from the team visited the Richmond Marriott, the Greater Richmond Convention Center, VCU and City Stadium during their trip.

“We also look forward to finding a great summer training camp facility in the city for both our team and our fans to enjoy,” said Washington Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen in a press release.

“The Washington Redskins bringing their summer training camp to Richmond is beyond exciting,” said Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones in a statement. “I thank the owners and senior executives of the Redskins for their ongoing work with us to determine the right facilities to meet the team’s needs. I thank Governor McDonnell for his leadership. Hail to the Redskins!”
