CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WTVR) – Lawyers for the former University of Virginia lacrosse player convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend are asking a judge for a new trial.

George Huguely’s lawyers filed a motion to have the conviction thrown out in Charlottesville court yesterday. They claim prosecutors withheld information from the defense.

The defense claims lead prosecutor Dave Chapman knew Yeardley Love’s mother planned to file a civil suit against Huguely. Sharon Love filed the $30 million suit in late April.

The defense claims the information showed the witnesses had clear financial bias, and should never have testified.

The judge will decide on June 29 whether or not George Huguely will get a second chance at proving his innocence.

Sharon Love also file suit against the state and UVA, claiming didn’t do enough to control what she describes asHuguely’s outlandish behavior.

In February Huguely was found guilty of second-degree murder and grand larceny in Love’s death.

Love’s battered body was found in her off campus apartment on May 3, 2010. The prosecution alleged that Huguely, in a drunken rage, kicked down her door and killed her by shaking her violently and slamming her head into a wall. The defense claimed she died from complications from an alcohol overdose.
