RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - It’s a big weekend for sporting events, concerts and festivals in Richmond. Unfortunately, the weather is causing some of those events to be cancelled for postponed.

Friday Cheers cancelled its evening concert and festivities. Organizers had planned on hosting the event, until the first set of storms rolled into the area around 3’oclock Friday afternoon.

Concert goers who’ve already purchased their tickets can use them at any Friday Cheers event through June 29th.

The Southside Speedway also cancelled races for the evening.

However, the Richmond Greek Festival will go on as planned, unless dangerous weather develops.

Earlier Friday, several hundred people showed up at the popular annual event to enjoy music, wine and Greek cuisine.

The Murphy family says they’ve come to the festival every year, rain or shine.

“It’s such a great festival, I think people come out regardless.” Sean Murphy says.

Greek Festival organizers are concerned and prepared for more inclement weather Friday evening. Maria Keritsis, a volunteer with the Greek Orthodox Church, says there is a contingency plan, including moving people into the cathedral if dangerous weather such as lightening, hail or high winds develop.

“Our first and foremost concern is the safety of our patrons and ourselves.”

The Flying Squirrels also proceeded with their plans to host the Erie Sea Wolves at the Diamond. The organization says the baseball game will continue unless more torrential downpours or dangerous weather moves into the region.
