(WTVR) - SpaceX has splashed down.

Landing in the Pacific Ocean 500-miles off the coast of Mexico completing the first commercial flight to the International Space station.

The SpaceX Dragon capsule landed at 8:42 a.m. this morning.

The capsule's return comes nine days after it took off on its' historic mission, during which it delivered food, clothing, computer equipment and supplies for science experiments to the orbital platform.

It carried nearly 1,400 pounds of old gear back to Earth.

SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, said the mission couldn't have gone better.

"All phases of the mission were successful and it was done obviously in close partnership with NASA, he said, "but in a different way."

The successful splash down could mean more ambitious projects for SpaceX.

Its' founder wants to launch the next supply mission in September and carry astronauts in as little as three or four years.
