CHARLES CITY, Va. (WTVR)--Community rallies to help wounded firefighter.

A fundraiser organized to raise money for a Charles City County firefighter who is in critical condition after surviving a fire truck accident two more than two weeks ago.

The intent is to help soften the financial blow on his family.

Buchanan suffered life threatening injuries and was flown to VCU Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. Family members say he has made improvements in mental clarity.

Family, friends and neighboring first responders are putting on a benefit concert for Mike Buchanan on June 9 with all the proceeds going to the family, and for Buchanan’s medical expenses.

The benefit has received an outpouring from the community and people from around the country who are planning to be there. Some firefighter teams are coming from as far away as California.

Tim LaLiberte, along with Charles City County Fire and surrounding fire departments are putting together the event.

LaLiberte says  the support from the community is overwhelming, and they expect between 1,000 and 2,000 people to attend. There will be food, games, live concerts and raffles for the whole family.

There will be five bands and it will beheld at the Rock-A-Hock Campground.
