Virginia Tech University is working to make the campus safer, but not by increasing police patrols. By adding increased surveillance.

The Roanoke Times reports Virginia Tech is working with a company called X7 Systems Integration, which received a nearly $1 million contract to install a new video surveillance network.

Close to 25,000 cameras could be installed around the 2600-acre campus.
