GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – One person was killed and five others were injured when a vehicle ran off Interstate 64 in Goochland County Friday and hit several trees.
Virginia State Police Sergeant Thomas Molnar said in a news release that a 1999 Dodge Dakota was heading eastbound when it ran off the interstate near the Oilville Road exit (mile-marker 168) around 11:50 a.m. The front drivers side tire blew, pulling the vehicle to the right side of the road and into nearby trees.
The driver and four others passengers, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to VCU Medical Center by ambulance. Ashley Quarles, 26 of Lousia, was riding in the front seat, and was not wearing a seat belt. She died after being transported to Henrico Doctors Parham.
Police had shutdown the interstate so med-flight could land and fly a crash victim to the hospital. The right lane reopened around 4:30 p.m.
Others injured in the accident include driver Cecilia Davin, 48 of Louisa. And passenger Joseph Quarles, 29 of Lousia. Three minors were hurt as well, an eight-year-old male, six- year-old female, and a 10-year-old male.
Virginia State Police continues to investigate the accident.
