RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The grieving mother of two women stabbed last weekend on Richmond’s Southside is talking about what happened.

"I don't understand it and I'm still numb behind all this," said Debra McClenny.

McClenny’s two daughters were just two years apart. Both women were stabbed in the early hours of last Sunday on Richmond’s Southside.

Twenty-nine-year-old Rakita McClenny was killed and her 31-year-old sister, Aja, is in critical condition fighting to recover.

"I don't know what the reason why this woman would want to do something to them two," said McClenny.

McClenny said her girls held good jobs, had their own homes and that each was raising a child.

She said the sisters were leaving a restaurant when a woman inside started to harass the sisters about how they looked.

McClenny claimed the woman who was a complete stranger to the girls, followed them outside and down the street where she stabbed one and then the other.

By Monday 48-year-old Monita Cunningham was arrested and charged with the crime.

"The woman who did it I don't want her to get out of jail to hurt anyone else,” said McClenny.

Family members are relieved that the case appears to be heading towards justice. The healing process of their loss will take time but they're hoping healing comes quickly for Aja.

"We're asking for everyone's prayers because no one is ever prepared for death," said McClenny.
