RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Students at Maggie Walker Governor’s School in Richmond took part in a special assembly Friday.

The W82TEXT event was organized by the school’s Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) group on the heels of prom weekend.

Virginia State Police’s Sgt. Norman Gray and Trooper Eric Middleton, local attorney Michael Lantz and CBS 6 “Beat the Traffic” Reporter Amanda Meadows spoke at the assembly.

Each of the speakers talked about their personal experiences with texting and driving —  as well as the legal ramifications associated with the deadly trend.

Additionally, the school recently had more students sign the W82TEXT pledge, a grassroots effort that aims to curb texting and driving, than any other school in Central Virginia.
