Longwood University’s President is retiring.

Patrick Finnegan made the announcement Tuesday. He’s citing health reasons but is not releasing any information about his illness.

He’s held the position as President for two years.

Ken Perkins, interim vice president for academic affairs, will serve as acting president. The board will meet soon to appoint an interim president.

Finnegan became the school’s 25th president in July 2010 after serving 11 years as a law professor and administrator at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He also served as the academy’s chief academic officer from 2005-2010.
