HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – On December 28, 1985, a two-alarm fire burned then under-construction Embassy Suites Hotel in Henrico’s West End. The fire caused $100,000 in damage according to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

At the time, the newspaper reported:

Damage in the Saturday afternoon fire at the Embassy Suite Hotel at 2925 Emorywood Parkway was confined to the roof of the eight-story structure and roofing materials stored there.  Eight fire companies responded to the 4:10 p.m. blaze, which was punctuated by three explosions of propane gas containers and produced black smoke that was visible as far away as Ashland and Sandston.  The fire, which was brought under control in about 35 minutes, snarled traffic on nearby Broad Street Road.
