FORT LEE, N.J. (WTVR) – Texters beware.  One city in New Jersey is cracking down on texting while walking.  Officials in Fort Lee have begun issuing tickets up to $85 for each offense.  The measure was implemented after a rise in pedestrian-related accidents.

“It’s to make pedestrians more aware of what they are doing. They are supposed to pay attention while crossing the road,” said Police Chief Joseph Rippoli told WPIX in New York City.

WPIX reported police will only ticket texters or talkers who cross the street outside of the crosswalk.
