WASHINGTON, D.C (WTVR) – Thousands of police will take to the streets today for the Police Unity Tour. This bicycle tour will end in Washington, DC and will honor those who died during duty. The Police Unity Tour’s motto is “We Ride for Those Who Died.”

A group made up of more than 1,400 police officers–launched their 2012 ride hundreds of miles from points in East Hanover (NJ), Franklin Township, (NJ), Howell (NJ) Portsmouth (VA), Richmond (VA) and King of Prussia (PA) to Washington, DC.

Participants trained hard for this honor. Each had to ride a 300 mile average, and raise more than $1,700-dollars for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

The Tour’s six groups will converge in Washington, DC May 12th at approximately 2:00 p.m. There they will be greeted with family, friends, colleagues and supporters.

Along the routes, riders will stop at 14 Target(R) stores to further the group’s primary mission of raising awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Target(R) is a generous sponsor of the Police Unity Tour and law enforcement.
