State trooper injured in pursuit of motorcyclist

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) Motorists can expect delays due to an accident in which a state trooper suffered injuries on Interstate 95 North.

The accident happened on I-95 north, just south of Willis Road.

The east right shoulder is closed, and motorists can expect potential delays due to a vehicle accident.

Sgt. Thomas Molnar, with the Virginia State Police, said that they have a motorcycle rider in custody. He said that at 7:40 p.m. this evening, police attempted to stop the driver of the motorcycle for a traffic violation on I-95, near Route 288 in Chesterfield County.

Sgt. Molnar said that as the motorcycle rider fled, the Virginia State Police trooper who was pursuing the motorcycle was involved in a crash.

The trooper suffered minor injuries and is currently being assessed at the scene, said police.

The motorcycle rider was taken into custody in the City of Richmond without further incident.

The crash involving the trooper remains under investigation.

The identity and the charges the motorcycle rider is facing are pending.
