COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR) - Police in Colonial Heights have arrested a man accused of stealing a woman's purse from a Martin's grocery store shopping cart.

Colonial Heights Police Sgt. Rob Ruxer told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil on April 28, 2012, the man parked his older model Ford Ranger in a fire lane right in front of the store located on Boulevard in the Colonial Square shopping center. The suspect's truck had no license plates, police said.

"Very surprising a police officer didn't drive up and see the vehicle parked there with no license plates," Sgt. Ruxer said.

After stealing the purse, Ruxer said the man walked back to his truck, drove across the street and put license plates back on his vehicle before driving away.

Ruxer said the thief got away with $200 and the woman's credit cards.

He said based on the suspect's calm demeanor, he believed the man had committed this crime before.
