(WTVR) – About one in five of the nation’s top companies are looking for specific personality traits when hiring and promoting employees.

Of the 500 companies surveyed by the Society for Human Resource Management, 18% said they use tests that indicate whether someone is an abstract thinker, detail oriented, traditional or open to new ideas.

Most companies don’t use these tests for hiring, but 56% used the tests to fill mid-level management positions and 43% use the tests at the executives level

The tests costs companies thousands of dollars a year.
