RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Some University of Richmond graduates held a silent protest at commencement in protest of Governor McDonnell’s legislative actions and ideologies.

Governor McDonnell was in Richmond as the main speaker at UR spring commencement.

The school says about 730 people graduated Sunday afternoon.

A handful of graduates participated in a silent protest during Gov. McDonnell’s speech.

They took their robes off to reveal shirts with anti-homophobic and anti-racist slogans.

The students involved said the Governor “actively oppresses gay people, women and people of color.”
