BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) – A sleeping bear that caused a commotion on the University of Colorado campus last week has died.

The bear, now known as “the falling bear” because of this well-timed shot of him falling from a tree after being tranquilized on the CU-Boulder campus, was killed after being struck by a car on Highway 36.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials say the 280-pound black bear was killed after being hit by a car early Thursday morning.

The bear was relocated to a wilderness area about 50 miles west of Boulder after it was tranquilized last week.

There’s no information available about the vehicle that hit the bear.
