Shaka Smart will host at Obama event on Saturday

RICHMOND, Va.—VCU basketball coach Shaka Smart will host the pre-program at President Obama’s campaign rally on Saturday at the Siegel Center.

The Obama campaign made that announcement today and said that the complete list of program participants will be released tomorrow.

A mix of grassroots supporters and political leaders, from all around the Commonwealth will participate.

So far the Obama campaign has said that pre-program participants include Shaka Smart, Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones, U.S. Congressman Bobby Scott and former Governor Tim Kaine

The rally is open to the public and tickets are not required for admission.

Supporters are strongly encouraged to RSVP at www.ofa.bo/rallyva and should plan to arrive early, as space is limited.

Doors are currently scheduled to open at 1:45pm, although that time is subject to change.

The rally is scheduled to start at 4:35 p.m. on Saturday.

The President and the First Lady will be traveling from Ohio to Richmond that day.

The President is kicking off his official re-election campaign in two states he won in 2008. Both states are considered swing states in the 2012 presidential election.

According to the President’s website:

All attendees will go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids, or signs will be allowed in the venue. Cameras are permitted.

This will be the President’s fourth trip to Central Virginia in less than a year.

In March, the President spoke about the economy at a newly-opened, $170 million Rolls-Royce plant in Prince George County.
