MARION, Ohio (WBNS) — An elderly Ohio woman says a hidden medical alert device saved her from a violent home break-in.

Police say two teenagers broke into 93-year-old Ruby Snyder’s Marion home early Tuesday morning. They reportedly tied her up and threatened to kill her.
Snyder had a medical alert necklace, which she somehow managed to turn on without anyone seeing.

“Somehow I grabbed it … and I had it in my hand the whole time I was sitting. … They didn’t know I had it,” Snyder recalled. “Then … I was sitting on it.”

Once turned on, the device activated an intercom system, allowing medical dispatchers to hear what was going on inside the home.

Dispatchers relayed the information to police. Officers then went to the home and arrested the teens.

The 16- and 17-year-old suspects face burglary, robbery and kidnapping charges.
