28 guns, 1,000 rounds of ammo seized from Hanover home

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Hanover County investigators removed weapons, ammunition and drugs from a Mechanicsville home after arresting a man on drug charges last Thursday.

Sheriff’s deputies charged Lawrence T. Abernathy, 33, with distribution of cocaine and possession of a firearm while in the possession of a controlled substance.

When investigators searched Abernathy’s home, along the 7400 block of Brook Way Court in Mechanicsville, they said they found:

  • 20 semi-auto handguns (9 millimeter, .45 caliber, and .40 caliber)
  • 3 – 12 gauge shotguns
  • 3 – assault rifles
  • 2 – long rifles
  • Over 1,000 rounds of ammunition
  • 153 magazines
  • 3 knives
  • 2 tactical vests

In addition to the weapons and ammo, investigators said they found a small quantity of narcotics and money.

Abernathy is being held without bond at Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover County.
