RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) To celebrate Earth Day, more than two hundred Altria employees broke out the elbow grease and scoured favorite Richmond spots like Brown’s Island, Belle Isle and Historic Tredegar.

The efforts helped prep the riverfront areas in anticipation of the summer crowds that flock to the river.

Volunteers picked up trash, removed graffiti, built fences, cleared out brush and did some mending to existing structures.

They also constructed bat boxes, bird and wood duck houses, seed sprouting and garden transplant kits, picnic tables, benches and wooden trash and recycling receptacles said spokesperson Ken Garcia—all to be used by the James River Parks systems at various locations.

“At the end of the day, it’s really about helping the community feel better, look better, and enjoy getting out in Richmond,” said Holly Killius, an Altria employee. “This area is really the jewel of Richmond.”
