Richmond, Va. (WTVR) – The World Champion New York Giants raised some eyebrows by selecting Virginia Tech running back David Wilson with the final pick of the first round…32nd overall.

Wilson, who was the 2011 ACC player of the year and a second-team All-American, tied the school’s season-record with 10 100-yard rushing games. He rushed for 1,709 yards and nine touchdowns last season and averaged 122.7 yards per game. He also caught 22 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown. He can return kickoffs and has two touchdowns on kickoff returns. He had 2,253 all-purpose yards last season.

He became the first Hokie drafted in the first round since Duane Brown was taken with the 26th pick by Houston in 2008.

It’s the first time the Giants picked a running back in the first round since 2000…when they drafted Ron Dayne from Wisconsin.
