CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) - Former SportsQuest employees on the bench without pay.

“What I’d like to see myself and others is to get back the money that we are owed,” said former SportsQuest executive Sue Murphy.

She says SportsQuest owes her $25,000. It includes two monthly paychecks and a promotional raise she said is stipulated in her contract.

Murphy saw our interview Wednesday night with her former boss and former CEO of SportsQuest, Steve Burton.

“Now, one comment he made that a lot of people had a hard time with is the whole ‘I didn’t get paid since November’. And yet, he thinks everybody should work for free for him because of this 'vision that you need to wrap your arms around.'  But, in the end, I’m a single mom with two kids,” said Murphy.

Murphy joined SportsQuest in April 2010 as Executive Director of Girl’s Lacrosse.  She said what followed was a series of additional responsibilities including Director of Boy’s Lacrosse, Director of Field Hockey, Vice President of Facilities and President of Events.

“I didn't get back what I was supposed to get back personally, but I took on more, and more and more to make this work,” she said.

Murphy said the final icing on the cake was in June of last year. That’s when she said the girl’s lacrosse travel team had invested money in SportsQuest for tournament and uniform fees.

“But, nine days before their first tournament, there were no uniforms and no tournament. Money gone Money gone.  I had to resign to save face with these families that had followed me,” she said.

In addition to the $25,000 she claims she’s owed, Murphy said she rolled her lacrosse and field hockey training business into SportsQuest when she first started working there. Now, she said she is trying to get it back.
