RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Snow along the ridge-top of Skyline Drive within Virginia's Shenandoah National Park closed the entire stretch of the scenic road Monday, April 23, 2012 as a Spring nor'easter affects the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Any other cameras lower down in elevation (like our Skytracker Cameras in the Charlottesville area at just shy of 600 feet elevation) are only showing rain. But this wet, heavy snow will lead to three to six inches of accumulation along Virginia's ridge-tops today. Because of an earlier-than-normal "Spring greening," many trees are already heavier with fresh foliage and may be damaged by a heavy, wet, clinging snowfall. In addition, winds will gust 35 to 55 mph along ridge-tops through tonight. BONUS: Click here for the Monday forecast update.
A representative from Shenandoah National Park confirmed that 4.5 inches of snowfall was measured in the park Monday, as of an 8:30 a.m. measurement. Other unofficial reports from the Park indicate three to five inches of snowfall at the highest elevations throughout the Park.
