HAMPTON, Va. (WTKR) - New details surfaced about a fight between a mother and her estranged husband that escalated into a deadly shootout and fire in Hampton.

Police went to a home on Ravenscroft for a domestic dispute Wednesday morning and found Carla Williams on the road, suffering from multiple injuries. Williams died from her injuries.

Police said her estranged husband, Travis Williams, was on the roof of the burning home with a gun. Police said Williams fired first at the officers, who returned fire killing Williams.

Once firefighters put out the fire, they found two more bodies inside the home One was a 76-year-old woman, the other Carla Williams’ 14-month-old daughter.

Travis and Carla were married in 2002.

Three years ago, court papers show Carla filed a protective order against her husband; it was withdrawn weeks later. The two bought a home in Hampton and started a family.

But in January, their relationship turned violent.

Carla again sought protection from her husband telling police Travis had assaulted her; he yanked her out of the shower and dragged her across the floor.

The protective order was approved by a judge, and Travis was forbidden from going to the home or making any contact with his wife or daughter for two years.
