Get in FREE at over 30 museums for Civil War & Emancipation Day

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - More than thirty Museums and Institutions will open their doors free to the public this weekend to commemorate the Anniversaries of the Civil War and the end of American Slavery.

As part of the Civil War & Emancipation Day commemoration, a rare copy of the 13th Amendment Resolution that ended slavery in the United States will be on display for the first time in Virginia at The Virginia Historical Society. The Amendment on loan from the Gilder Lehrman Collection can be seen Saturday, 10am-5pm and Sunday 1-5pm. Curator of African-American History at VHS will host a short lecture Saturday at 1:30.

Other events include a guided tour or Richmond Slave Trail, African-American Reflections on the Civil War at the site Lumpkins Jail,  demonstrations of "Unknown No Longer" A database of Virginia Slave Names, "Race: Are we so different?" exhibit at the Science Museum and many other activities at various museums and institutions.
