Nearly one-third of all children in Virginia are either overweight or obese.

Now several health groups criticized Governor McDonnell, when he used his veto power to kill a ban that would have required elementary and middle school students to participate in at least two and a half hours of physical education every week. But will similar legislation be signed into law?

The Daily Press is reporting a bill sponsored by Henrico Delegate John O’Bannon had negotiated with the Governor, and will likely get his signature.

The difference between O’Bannon’s bill and the legislation killed by the Governor, is O’Bannon’s does not require the 150 minutes of physical education. Rather, it call on the State Board of Education to come up with rules and guidelines for schools to follow.
