SANFORD, Fl. (CNN) Authorities say that this morning an empty police cruiser was shot up in the same area where Trayvon Martin was killed.

Police say the car, parked at an elementary school parking lot in Sanford, Florida, was shot several times.

The Sanford Police Department says they had parked it there as a deterrent to the tour buses, bringing throngs of protesters, and then parking on the school property.

“I'm sure it's not a coincidence,” Sgt David Morgenstern, with the Sanford Police Department, said.
“I'm sure someone has specific reasons as to why they did it but we don't know why.”

“We come to work everyday putting our best foot forward and I guess this kind of reminds you a little bit, kind of keeps it in the back of your mind, you've gotta be aware of your surroundings at all times because you want to make sure you go home to your family,” he added.

A special prosecutor is investigating the controversial shooting case and will determine whether criminal charges will be filed against George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self defense.

TodayAttorneys for neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who authorities say fatally shot an unarmed teenager in Florida, said Tuesday they have lost contact with their client and will no longer represent him.

“He has gone on his own. I’m not sure what he’s doing or who he’s talking to,” said legal adviser Craig Sonner. “If he wants us to come back as counsel, he will contact us.”
