HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR)-   The Henrico County Department of Public Utilities will start working Wednesday on a 10-year program to flush out more than 1,500 miles of water mains, and the process could cause a few inconveniences for those who live and work in the county.

DPU says the flush will begin near Darbytown and Williamsburg roads and will continue for several weeks in that area before moving to other parts of eastern Henrico.

The comprehensive flush will go on from April to November of each year, and DPU says it plans to clear out 10 percent of the county’s water mains each year. Work in the designated areas will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

During the flushing process, customers may notice large amounts of water in the streets and water that is discolored or cloudy; DPU officials say the discoloration is from sediment removal and does not create a health concern.
