RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Are police officers in one part of central Virginia writing a lot more tickets than those in other parts of the state?

Triple AAA mid-Atlantic said the state collected more than $100 million dollars in revenue from speeding infractions in 2010.

The travel organization says a disproportionate number of those tickets were written in the City of Hopewell, mostly along a one to two-mile stretch of Interstate 295, which AAA calls “the million-dollar mile.”

Here is one perspective; nearly 23,000 people live in Hopewell, compared to $1.1 million in Fairfax County, the largest county in Virginia.

But according to AAA, Hopewell alone generated nearly half the ticket count of Fairfax.
