RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) released a stunning image taken by the Expedition 30 crew currently on the International Space Station of the aurora as viewed from space while passing about 240 miles over the eastern North Atlantic. While looking northeast, the lights at night seen on Earth in the photo are from Ireland (image foreground) and the United Kingdom (image back-right). Sunrise is on the eastern horizon, with the greens and purples of the aurora in between. NASA says, “Center point coordinates are 46.8 degrees north latitude and 14.3 degrees west longitude. This image was taken on March 28, 2012.”
