Folks gearing up for Saturday’s Monument Ave. 10K

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - We're now less than 24 hours away from the 2012 Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K, but there's a lot you can do to prepare for the big race if you're one of the 40,000 plus participants, or are planning to be among the cheering crowd along the route.

Meghan Keogh with Sports Backers said there are a couple things you can do to make your run go smoothly.

"Go out and get something good to eat and healthy to eat tonight," Keogh said. "Get some good sleep. Be sure to load up on water too."'

Check the forecast ahead of time will ensure you're dressed for the weather.

"Layer up in the morning if you need to," she added. "You can always shed some clothes if you need to."

If you're planning to come down and watch the race, check out the parking situation ahead of time. Some roads will be closed.

For the first time the Sports Backers are offering shuttles to and from the event. You can buy tickets until 9 p.m. tonight at the Arthur Ashe Center.

If you're wishing you'd signed up to run, it's not too late. Registration is open until 9 p.m. Friday.
