Denver, CO (KDVR) — Just a day after signing future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning to a five-year deal, the Denver Broncos have traded popular quarterback Tim Tebow to the New York Jets.

Sources tell FOX31 Denver the Broncos will receive 4th and 6th round draft picks in exchange for Tebow, who led the Broncos to their first playoff win in six years last season.

The Broncos also give New York a 7th round draft pick.

“I wish Tim the best…awesome guy and hard worker,” tweeted Broncos offensive tackle Tony Hills. “The Jets got themselves a great football player.”

“I wanna thank u, 4 wht u helped us do last year,” Broncos safety Brian Dawkins tweeted. “On the field & off! I have NO doubt that u will B a blessing 4 the Jets!

In New York, Tebow will likely backup Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, or perhaps compete for the starting job.

New York recently signed Sanchez to a $20.5 million, five-year deal.

John Elway, the Broncos’ executive vice president for football operations, was ambiguous about Tebow’s status during a Tuesday press conference to introduce Manning.

“Tim Tebow is a great kid. If I want someone to marry my daughter, it’s him,” Elway said. “To his fans, I would say this: That’s the tough part of this business. I’ve got to make the best decisions I can for the Denver Broncos.”

According to Mike Klis (@MikeKlis) of the Denver Post, “Elway is not trading Tebow because he doesn’t think he can play. He’s trading Tebow so Manning doesn’t have to deal with circus.”
