RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Virginia is getting a failing grade for integrity in government.

A study done by The Center for Public Integrity, Global Integrity, and Public Radio ranks Virginia as the 47th state doing something about public corruption. No state got an “A” rating.

The study questioned the influence of lobbyists on legislative process, the lack of limits on political fundraising, a lack of a statewide commission on ethics, and limits on open records.

It also criticized Virginia’s short legislative session saying that made it more difficult for lawmakers to review potential legislation, and more likely that bills written by lobbyists would become law.
