Police ID Virginia teen shot, killed in car

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WTKR) – Police have identified a teen who was shot and killed over the weekend.  On March 18, 2012 at approximately 9:12 p.p., Portsmouth police received several 911 calls from citizens in reference to gunshots in the area of the 2600 block of Frederick Boulevard.

Officers patrolling nearby heard the gunshots, and also notified dispatchers.

Officers responded to the intersection of Frederick Boulevard and Deep Creek Boulevard and found a teen who was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds.

According to police, the victim was found in the driver’s seat of a Dodge Avenger. The Dodge had come to a stop after crashing into a utility pole.

Homicide detectives said the victim had stopped at a gas pump at the BP station on Frederick Boulevard. A male suspect approached him, while the victim was sitting in the vehicle. During the encounter, the suspect shot the victim. The victim attempted to leave the area in the vehicle, but due to his injuries, he crashed into the pole across the street from the gas station.

The victim was not the registered owner of the vehicle.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Keiontre Laquan Rodgers of the 6200 block of Apple Street in Suffolk.
