RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Gas prices in Richmond, Virginia are increasing faster than the price of gas nationally, according to a new report from RichmondGasPrices.com.

The report indicated gas prices in Richmond rose 7.9 cents over the last week to put the average price for regular gas at $3.75 a gallon. Nationally, the average price is $3.80 a gallon, however prices rose just 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week.

According to the website, around a dozen local gas stations are charging between $3.87 and $3.99 a gallon. If analysts’ predictions are correct, some of those stations will start to charge more than $4.00 a gallon as early as this week.

“Average retail gasoline prices will likely rise this week, after a surge in wholesale prices late last week,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan in a press release. “I still maintain that prices will likely not peak until we get closer to the month of May, as a majority of locales around the United States make eventual switch overs to summer spec gasoline,” DeHaan said.

Prices in Richmond are 31.4 cents higher today than at this same time last year.
