(CNN) – HBO has canceled its series “Luck” following the deaths of three horses during production of the show. The third horse was euthanized Tuesday after the animal reared and fell on its way to a stable.

TMZ reports the show’s crew was told Wednesday that the show is over.

“Luck” stars Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte and is set at a racetrack. Animal rights groups had called on HBO to stop filming racing scenes.
