FREE ADMISSION:  Celebrate St. Patty’s day Saturday (3/17) with free admission to  the 9th annual “Shamrock the Block” party.  From noon to 6, live music all day, food, beverages and a free kids zone.  Event proceeds benefit Greater Richmond SCAN-Stop Child Abuse Now.  It’s all around the 17th Street farmers Market in Shockoe Bottom , where several streets will be closed.

FREE ADMISSION:  Enjoy free admission Saturday March 17th, as Falling Creek Ironworks Park, site of the first iron furnace in the New World, will hold its annual Falling Creek Ironworks Day.,  From noon to 4 p.m., activities include f candle making and blacksmith demonstrations, period children’s games and music and guided archaeological tours. Plus  traditional Native American singing and dancing. The Henricus Militia will participate in drills and musket demonstrations.  Admission is free.  The park is at 6407 Jeff Davis Highway.

FREE MOVIES:  Ashland Firehouse Theatre is showing free movies on Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm through early April. The theater is at 201 Duncan Street.

FREE JAZZ: The Virginia Museum has free admission to it’s Jazz Cafe program every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Upcoming performances include  the Sharon Rae North Quartet (3/15), Desiree Roots Centeio Quartet (3/22), Mary Lawrence Hicks and the No Land Band (3/29), the Russell Wilson Trio (4/5) and the Chris Vasi Trio (4/12).  Jazz Cafe and general Museum admission are always free.

FREE LESSON: Check out a free introductory lesson, ice skating or ice hockey at either SkateNation Plus in Short Pump or Richmond Ice Zone in Midlothian.

FREE TAX HELP: Tax time is creeping up quickly. If you’d like free help preparing your 2011 income tax return, there are trained volunteers at 13 sites across the metro area that can help you out.  Click here for more information.

LOTS OF FREE STUFF: How about getting and giving stuff free? The Freecycle Network is made up of nearly five thousand groups and nearly 70-thousand members around the world who are getting and giving away stuff free. Membership is free It’s a great way to recycle, get rid of items you don’t want, and get things you do.

FREE TAX PREP: Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services will provide free tax-preparation and filing assistance until March 29th . The service will be available on Thursday afternoons at the Smith-Wagner Building, 9501 Lucy Corr Circle, Chesterfield.
