RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) The nearly 300 -page layout includes plans to develop the waterfront in order to boost revenue, consolidate city agencies and keep city employees at their current pay rate.

“We need to learn how to do more with less, “said Mayor Dwight Jones.

Mayor Jones said that while it is his priority to protect jobs, his boldest effort is to transform public housing into mixed-use development along with improving the school system by holding its leaders accountable.

While the Mayor has his ideas, it ultimately comes down to what city council members decide. Council members are still questioning Jones’ sternness when it comes to having school leaders justify their request for $24 million dollars to close the district’s budget gap.

“I feel like the Richmond Public School system is being thrown under the bus. They tried to reach out to the Mayor and he spurned them,” said Bruce Tyler, Councilman, First District.

Council members have until May 31 to approve and adopt the Jones’ budget.
