RICHMOND, Va (WTVR)-   Richmond Public School leaders recently requested $24 million dollars from the city to make up for next year’s projected budget gap.

However, Mayor Jones is confident more cuts can be made to close the gap.

Therefore, he is establishing a Schools Accountability and Efficiency Review Task Force.  “We tend to treat the school system as a grantee, finding them with little review, “says Jones.

Mayor Jones called the financial management by school leaders unsustainable and unfortunate after noting that $8 million dollars in one-time funding wasn’t used appropriately last year.

Richmond School Superintendent, Dr. Yvonne Brandon says if the district can’t secure $24 million dollars in funds it will likely result in several furlough days for employees and larger class sizes.
