People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are known for their animal rights campaigns. Now some of their members are trying to get people pumped about veganism, and are offering gas money to try some samples.

Two ladies showed up, in lettuce bikinis, at a Rhode Island Gulf gas station, to offer samples of To-furkey, a soy-based turkey substitute.

The representatives discussed the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle with customers, and then bought them some gas.

This isn’t the first time PETA’s Lettuce Ladies have hit the pumps soliciting new converts, in exchange for free gasoline. In 2008, PETA issued a press release about pushing mock-turkey sandwiches during the busy Fourth of July weekend.

The choice is left up to local affiliates. So far, no reports of free gas in Richmond, but we will keep you posted.
