2 arrested after weekend homicide in Gilpin Court

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond Police said two people have been arrested and charged Tuesday with conspiracy to commit murder after a weekend homicide on St. John’s Street.

Detectives arrested 26-year-old  Brandon D. Cooper, of the 2100 block of Deforrest Street in Richmond, and 25-year-old Jamilah A. Crews, of the 1600 block of Henrico Arms Place in Henrico.

Cooper and Crews were arrested in the 1600 block of Henrico Arms Place with the help of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the Henrico Police Department.

Police said their investigation is ongoing and that additional charges are pending.

Investigators were able to identify the two suspects within 24 hours of the incident thanks to tips from the community.

Police responded to a call of a shot fired around 8 p.m. in Gilpin Court Sunday.

Officers found a deceased male between housing units in the 1300 block of St. John Street, in Gilpin Court. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound, said police.

Police said that the victim is a black male in his early 20s.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause of death.
