PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va (WTVR) – Two dogs picked up on Jan. 28, near Indian Road in Petersburg, appear to have been burned by some sort of chemical.

Was it accidental or intentional?

It doesn’t matter to Prince George Animal Control Officers, they just want to find the person responsible and get the details about what happened.

A local vet decided to put both dogs on two separate antibiotics to try and fight any infection, which can seriously threaten the dogs’ fragile health.

While the dogs are not related, they do appear to have known each other and under observation, appear to be fond of each other.

Both are suffering from similar issues, loss of hair, scabs, and bloody spots on their skin.

What amazed animal control officers is the damage hasn’t affected their demeanor, which both are described as very loving and affectionate towards other.

The initial call in January was for black dog hit by a car, but when the first animal control officer arrived, he found the black dog and a brown dog nearby, and realized something else was wrong with the pair.

They were sent to a local vet who ruled out mange and believes a chemical may be what is causing the problems.

Both dogs are recovering and both will be up for adoption soon.

Animal Control Officers continue their investigation, combing the area for any clues.

Neither dog had an identification tag or a collar and with Interstate 95 within fifty feet of Indian Road, there is the possibility they were dumped nearby.

Neighbors say they will keep a close eye on their pets and are concerned about why the dogs appeared in their quiet neighborhood.
