But her hospitality, they said, may have put her in harm’s way.

Hakopian's mother, Betty Savage, said she recently talked to her daughter about the man who was living with her, Brian Mallory.

"Some maniac takes her life from her after she was trying to help him. I just can't understand someone so inhumane, so evil," she said. “I'm heartsick over this. I'll never get over this one.  You can't get over losing a child."

According to an affidavit filed Tuesday afternoon, Sarajane’s neighbor found her body inside her Beaverdam bedroom after she failed to pick up someone she cared for on a regular basis.

Savage said Sarajane treated everyone the same, and if you told her something, she’d trust you were not lying.

On Beaverdam Road Monday night,  Mallory’s uncle told CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett Sarajane and Brian were dating.  Savage said the two were intimate but added things had recently gone sour.

“She told me he became jealous of a guy she was friends with and made threats. That's when she became fearful," Savage said.

Deputies said Mallory lived with Hakopian, but he has not been charged with her murder.

He was arrested early Tuesday morning in Jacksonville, Florida and charged with Grand Larceny in the theft of Sarajane’s minivan.

Court documents showed Mallory was convicted of robbery and abduction in 1991 and sentenced to 124 years in prison with 90 suspended.

His uncle said Mallory had recently got out on parole.

Sarajane Hakopian, who would have turned 43 years old in February, will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 5.

The service will be held at the American Legion Lodge in Beaverdam.
