RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR - Current Virginia law does not allow home-schooled children to compete on public school sports teams.

A bill to extend home schooled children access to public school sports teams has previously been introduced before the General Assembly.

This year, however, things could change, reports the Associated Press.

Especially since there is a Republican takeover in the Senate, and three bills on the issue have been introduced by Republican House members.

Sponsors of the newest bill have referred to it as the "Tebow Law," named for Tim Tebow, the quarterback of the Denver Broncos. In fact, Tebow has been a household name this NFL season.

Something a lot of people don’t know about the quarterback is that he is a former homeschooler.  And one with a Heisman Trophy and national title at the University of Florida, in addition to this season's NFL playoffs.

The bill has several opponents reports the AP. Among them are the Virginia Association of School Superintendents and Virginia Education Association, which represent more than 60,000 public school teachers.
