FORT LEE, Va. (WTVR) – Hundreds gathered at Fort Lee and offered a standing ovation as around 70 soldiers returned home from almost a year in Afghanistan Wednesday.

The soldiers, who are from the Army’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 530th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, arrived at Fort Lee around 2:30 p.m.

Family and friends welcomed home the soldiers. As part of the celebration, soldiers also sang a rousing rendition of “The Army Goes Rolling Along.”  [BONUS: Soldiers sing Army Song at Fort Lee homecoming]

"I just need to see his face and I'm good," Jessica Anthony told CBS 6's Wayne Covil.

"It's like your best friend all over again, every time they come home," said Megan Tamez.

While the soldiers job of supplying food, fuel and ammunition to those in the combat zone, a year anywhere in Afghanistan is a year in a warzone. Moreover, coming home is a blessing.

For some, the homecoming means some much deserved rest and relaxation.

While many of the soldiers will soon find themselves back at Fort Lee, others said that this deployment would be there and that they plan to get out of the service.
