Death of Hopewell soldier in Afghanistan under investigation

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) – The Department of Defense announced Thursday that a soldier from Hopewell, Virginia died in Afghanistan.

In a press release, the DoD said Pfc. Michael W. Pyron died January 10th in Parwan province, Afghanistan.

Maj. Carla Debro told CBS 6 Senior Reporter Wayne Covil that she could not release more details about Pyron’s death, but did say the death was under investigation.

The 30-year-old soldier was assigned to the 25th Signal Battalion, 160th Signal Brigade, 335th Signal Command Theater.

The Department of Defense said Pyron left behind a wife and two  children.

That unit was based out of East Point, Georgia.
