Police ID body found in car pulled from James River

RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) - Richmond Police identified the man who was found dead inside a car in the James River Friday.

Officials said 43-year-old Freddie Dabney III, of the 2600 block of Quisenberry Street in Midlothian, died after his car entered the James River from Wharf Street around 10:44 a.m.

An eyewitness reported seeing a vehicle drive into the water.Spokesman Lt. Robbie Hagaman said Henrico County divers and several dozen fire rescue crews responded around 11 a.m. to 3011 Dock Street, the location formerly used by the Annabelle Lee riverboat.

Hagaman told CBS 6's Greg McQuade that a man on the opposite side of the river said he saw a car drive into the water.

A woman, sitting in her car near the search site, told investigators she saw a car go by -- but did not know what happened after.

Around 4:15, a wrecker pulled the late model Toyota out of about 12' of water near Rocket's Landing.

Police are continuing their investigation, but said foul play is not suspected.The Medical Examiner will determine cause of death.
