POWHATAN, VA (WTVR) - A family CBS 6 News profiled last weekend has received the money they need to save their home from going into foreclosure.

Century 21 Option 1 Realty delivered a check for over $5,000 Wednesday to delay foreclosure on the Miller family's home for 60 days.

Chrissy and Skip Miller, had been living in their garage with their young son Josiah after their home’s furnace broke.

Chrissy is terminally ill with cancer. This is expected to be her last holiday season with her son and husband of 13 years. There are concerns that she will not even make it to Christmas.

Skip recently lost his job, and the family's furnace was broken--and until the community stepped in-- they were using propane heaters to keep warm in the small garage.

However, once the story aired on CBS 6 News, the community organized a Facebook page to help. Since then, over 500 people have liked the page.

Now the community is working to pay off the remaining $16,000 left of the family's mortgage.

Additionally, the family is receiving aid from a nonprofit mortgage group that is working to get their loan refinanced.

Other companies, including Woodfin, have donated goods and services to help the family.
